Peter Berz joined the European Commission in 1993 and currently works in the Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security as head of the unit responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the European Union’s external trade policy.
Berz has held various positions in the Commission working with third countries, in particular on transatlantic political and economic relations, including in the EU Delegation in Washington, DC.
Before taking up this position in 2022, Berz was head of the unit dealing with the European Union’s trade and investment relations with countries in Asia. He was also Chief Negotiator for various EU trade agreements, including with New Zealand.
