In the first EU-India Trade and Technology Council of May 2023, the European Union and India agreed to exchange information on each other's mechanisms on foreign direct investment (FDI) screening.
On 8 February 2024, the co-chairs of the Investment Screening Working Group of the EU-India Trade and Technology Council invite you to join representatives from the European Commission (DG Trade) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India for an online stakeholder meeting to discuss recent developments related to FDI screening.
The event will take place between 10:00-11:45 (CET) / 14:30-16:15 (IST).
During this event, DG Trade and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India will provide information about their respective FDI screening mechanisms and update the participants on ongoing regulatory developments related to FDI screening. On the EU side, we will focus in particular on the legislative proposal unveiled by the Commission on 24 January 2024. This will be followed by a moderated discussion with all participants. The purpose is to seek the initial views of stakeholders on how FDI screening should achieve the right balance between protecting national security while remaining open to foreign investments, and ways in which the EU and India could potentially co-operate further in this area.
