On 20 January 2022, the EU requested consultations with Russia on measures that restrict exports of certain wood products to the EU since 1 January 2022. These measures consist of very significant increases of export duties, in excess of Russia’s bound rates in its Schedule of Concessions and Commitments, and of a drastic reduction of the border crossing points through which those exports take place. These measures apply on certain wood products falling under tariff line 4403, and in particular coniferous wood.
