Why we are consulting
The 15-Point Action Plan Document on Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) of February 2018 has guided the improvement of the implementation and enforcement of the TSD chapters in EU free trade agreements.
The European Commission is currently conducting a review of this Action Plan. As announced in the Trade Policy Review (TPR) Communication: “The review will cover all relevant aspects of TSD implementation and enforcement, including the scope of commitments, monitoring mechanisms, the possibility of sanctions for non-compliance as well as the institutional set-up and resources required.”
In line with the EU’s commitment to engage in a transparent and inclusive way with civil society, the European Commission has conducted an open public consultation to gather input from citizens and stakeholders. The consultation closed in November 2021; an overview of the contributions, as well as individual inputs, are now available to the public below.
As part of the review, the Commission has also launched an independent study to map and compare the different approaches to implementation and enforcement of TSD provisions by a number of EU partners in their trade agreements. The final report of the study will be made public shortly.
