RSSToday the Commission amended the EU’s steel safeguard regulation to create two new tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for steel products released for free circulation in Northern Ireland from other parts of the UK.
Today, the Commission published an implementing regulation maintaining the EU steel safeguard measure until its expiry on 30 June 2024. All tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) of the steel safeguard will continue to be increased (liberalised) by 4% as of 1 July 2023.
The Commission today initiated a review of the steel safeguard measure to determine whether it should be terminated one year earlier than its current end date of 30 June 2024. The Commission had committed to undertaking this review when it extended its original safeguard measure in June 2021.
An arbitration panel ruled in favour of the EU in a bilateral dispute with the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) under the EU–Southern African Development Community Economic Partnership Agreement (EU-SADC EPA ) over a safeguard measure imposed by SACU on EU imports of frozen chicken cuts.
The EU is prolonging for three additional years the safeguard measure currently in place on imports of certain steel products. The prolongation will apply from 1 July 2021.
Today (27 September 2019), the European Commission published its decision to adopt the adjustments to the steel safeguard measures. These will take effect as of 1 October 2019.
The Commission today presented a proposal for adjustments to the existing safeguard measures for steel.
