The 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, following its postponement, will take place in Geneva from 12 to 15 June 2022. The WTO is the centrepiece of the multilateral rules-based trading system but faces deep challenges, particularly in today’s complex geopolitical context.

The European Union has been working hard to ensure meaningful multilateral outcomes at the upcoming Ministerial Conference, in particular on fisheries subsidies, trade and health, agriculture, including food security, and on the launch of a process of reform of the core functions of the Organization, including its negotiating function; its monitoring/deliberating function; and above all dispute settlement reform.

The Commission will also present the state-of-play of the negotiations on the various plurilateral initiatives within the WTO including on E-commerce, Investment Facilitation, Trade & Environment, and Trade & Gender.

The purpose of this meeting is to exchange views on the progress of the negotiations in the run-up to the Ministerial Conference and on the possible outcomes.
