The partners are working together to enhance traceability and transparency of supply chains in the diamond trade.
Earlier this year, the G7 banned Russian-origin diamonds, including ones processed in third countries, from being imported into G7 jurisdictions to deprive Russia of an important revenue stream used to finance its war of aggression against Ukraine. In parallel, the G7 committed to establishing a robust traceability-based verification and certification mechanism for rough diamonds.
The collaboration of the G7 and Botswana, along with other diamond-producing countries, is important for ensuring the effective enforcement of sanctions against Russia.
