EU and US hold first Trade and Labour Dialogue

The EU and the US held their inaugural tripartite Trade and Labour Dialogue (TALD) with EU and US social partners.

The EU and the US held their inaugural tripartite Trade and Labour Dialogue (TALD) with EU and US social partners. The EU and the US established the TALD at the second meeting of their Trade and Technology Council (TTC) on 16 May 2022 in order to consult their respective social partners on transatlantic trade and labour issues. The focus is on how to help workers and employers make successful digital and green transitions, remain globally competitive, and to achieve broad and inclusive prosperity.

During this meeting, the parties discussed several topics proposed by the EU and US social partners. These included the impacts of digital trade on transatlantic workforces as well as measures taken to alleviate the current high inflationary pressure, and how to ensure that such measures foster transatlantic trade. The meeting further served to prepare the first ministerial level TALD meeting planned to take place in the US later this year, at the time of the next TTC meeting.
