Commission acts against unfairly traded imports of choline chloride

Today the Commission imposed anti-dumping measures on imports into the EU of choline chloride from the People’s Republic of China.

The definitive anti-dumping duties imposed range from 90% to 115.9%. The imposition of the duties follows a 14-month investigation that identified unfair trade practices.

Imposing these duties will help to re-establish fair competitive conditions on the EU market between choline chloride imported from China and the domestically produced product. The EU market for choline chloride is worth €84 million.

Choline chloride is a chemical, primarily used as an additive in feed for animals and pets, such as chickens, pigs, rabbits and horses. It is used in baby formula and prenatal dietary supplements, as well as in other nutraceutical products for human consumption. It is also used as a clay stabiliser in drilling fluids within the oil and gas industry.

The EU-based choline chloride industry employs around 160-175 people. It is located in Belgium, Italy and Spain.
