Bringing the best to the tables of the world

Prosciutto di San Daniele is a world-renowned dry cured ham. Its unique flavour and texture is due to the special environment in which the ham is produced. Prosciutto di San Daniele is also protected as a geographical indication – a distinctive sign used to identify a product as coming from a particular country, region or locality where its quality, reputation or other characteristic is linked to its geographical origin.

Company profile

The Association counts 31 producers as members. They produce their special prosciutto exclusively in San Daniele del Friuli, in north eastern Italy.

The supply chain includes 3927 farmers, 550 workers, 116 slaughterhouses and 31 production sites.

They sell their dry cured ham in Europe and have growing exports to countries such as the USA, Australia, and now Canada.  18 of their 31 producers now sell to Canada.

How the agreement has helped

CETA has recognised the product PDO Prosciutto di San Daniele.

CETA protects the geographical indication Prosciutto di San Daniele meaning the ham can be sold under its proper name.

With CETA, our producers of Prosciutto di San Daniele have seen their exports increase by more than a third since last year. Some producers have also been able to export to Canada for the first time. Under CETA we can now export our product to Canada under its proper name, which wasn’t possible before.
