Germany - How the modernised EU-Chile trade deal boosts KAESER’s reach

Since 2003, the EU-Chile trade deal has given KAESER a breath of fresh air - slashing a 6% import tax to zero and supercharging the company’s competitive edge. With tariff-free German engineering, the Santiago-based team ensures nationwide coverage.

Kaeser Compresores de Chile SpA, a direct subsidiary of Germany-based Kaeser Kompressoren SE, has been operating in Santiago since 1998. With a workforce of 151 employees, the company manages five strategic branch offices to provide full coverage across Chile’s 4,200 km territory.

The company’s operations are significantly supported by the EU-Chile Association Agreement that has been in place since 2003, and which was recently modernised in 2025. While imported machinery in Chile is generally subject to a 6% tax on the FOB (Free on Board) value, equipment originating from the European Union is exempt, thanks to this agreement.

Kaeser Compresores de Chile SpA serves the Chilean market by ensuring comprehensive coverage across the country. The removal of tariffs on machinery under the free trade agreement between the EU and Chile gives us a comparative advantage that has bolstered our competitive pricing and strengthened our market position within the region.

Peter Schreiner,
General Manager, Kaeser Compresores de Chile SpA
