What is a CTIP?
A Clean Trade and Investment Partnership is a flexible tool to make sure the EU’s actions abroad support its goals for strong, clean, and sustainable industries.
CTIPs are fast and targeted, designed to match real business opportunities and local development needs.
Their goal is to strengthen EU competitiveness, secure supply chains, and support the clean energy transition by partnering with strategic countries.
This CTIP will develop cleaner industrial and energy value chains – especially for raw materials and clean energy – to make both partners more competitive and sustainable.
How do CTIPs help?
The CTIP helps the EU and South Africa work together to build cleaner, stronger, and more competitive industries. It is relevant because:
- It supports cleaner economic growth.
- Creates new opportunities for trade and investments.
- Improves cooperation and relations between governments, businesses, and investors.
- Builds more reliable and sustainable supply chains for critical materials and clean technologies.
How will the CTIP be implemented?
The CTIP will use targeted cooperation tools, including:
- Investment measures to improve the business environment for EU companies;
- Mobilisation of sustainable finance and green investment via EU development banks and export credit agencies;
- Exchange of information on CTIP-related investments and EU Global Gateway projects;
- Promotion of public procurement opportunities in clean sectors;
- Promotion of clean technologies and Environmental Social Governance standards, including in public procurement;
- Implementation of actions on strategic mineral and metals supply chains, and;
- Regulatory cooperation on trade, investment, energy, and climate issues.
